This programme is specifically designed for graduates in law from non-Common law jurisdictions (notably Mainland China) who wish to acquire an expertise in Common Law as it is practised in Hong Kong and in other common law jurisdictions.

香港大學普通法碩士課程開設於1997年，是連結香港與中國內地兩大法律體系的重要紐帶。該課程是為來自非普通法司法管轄區(尤其是中國內地)的法律專業畢業生特別開設。自1997年至今，已有超過760名的內地學生成功完成該課程並取得學位。他們包括由中央及香港政府資助的來自全國人大法制工作委員會、最高人民法院、最高人民檢察院、國務院法制辦、中央軍委法制局、外交部、司法部、國務院港澳辦公室、證監會、海關總署、北京上海廣東福建等地法院和多個省市司法局的官員和法官。此外亦通過自費及獎學金資助吸納了內地法學院年輕教師和成績出眾的法學院畢業生。
